Ahhh Shit it’s cold ! By: Ernie The Southern Monkey Today I am writing
about cold weather under clothing, this article is mostly for those that may not ride year round but would like to. I am going
to provide a little info on under clothing I personally use and recommend. When selecting under clothing I recommend getting
a size that is just a bit larger than you need to allow for shrinkage. There are also other manufacturers out there with equally
effective winter wear, if you use them and want to add your opinion and information to the list here please feel free to add
it.

The first
is by Polarmax I found that these work very well in keeping me warm on extremely cold rides in the mountains and on the freeway’s.
I have frequently ridden with the temp in the low 30’s and still felt comfortable, a little cold but still comfortable.
I cant say that for my exposed face parts but the rest of me was doing ok. It has been almost 6 years now since I purchased my first pair
of Polarmax and they are still holding up pretty well through tons of washes, thousands of miles they are just a little fuzzy
in certain spots. They still have their ability to keep me warm on cold days and comfortable up to 65 degree’s. Thats
where they start to get to warm for me, but keep me ventilated and dry. Pro’s: Keep you warm in extreme cold.
Very comfortable. Last a very long time.
Affordable Con’s: Shrink after wash, recommend buying one size up or dry on low heat.
Bottom of pants have a tendency to ride up your leg wont stayed tucked into socks.
2nd Hot Chilly’s Pepper
Skins These are my favorite in that they have lasted 7 years and
still work like I just bought them. These also have been through thousands of miles of use and tons of washes. I recommend
these more than the Polarmax. Everyone I have recommended these to can’t understand why they waited so long to get them. This brand has different temp ranges that you can select from and were a littler bit
less expensive than the Polar’s. They have a much nicer fit and the waist band does not lose it’s elasticity.
The pant legs stay tucked into your socks better than on the Polar’s Shirts stay tucked in. Hot Chilly’s are available at almost any
sporting good’s store. That’s why I did not include a link.
Pro’s: Keep you warm in freezing temps. Very comfortable. Inexpensive. Long Lasting
& durable.
Great fit pants or shirts. Wide selection of temperature ranges. Con’s: Have tendency to shrink a little. I
start to get to hot after weather goes above 60 degree’s. Here is how I layer when I use my Hot Chily’s. My chilly’s, blue jeans, then my chap’s. Nothing else.
Chilly shirt, flannel, sweater, leather jacket. Gauntlet gloves, winter socks. So there you have it, if you would like to join your fellow Monkeys on a winter run, now you
can.
