Meet: Steve Zahn
Q. What do you do for a living?
A. For work, I am a general
contractor that now specializes in kitchens and baths. For fun I do woodworking,
biking, RV travel (5th wheel) and as you can see from the photo I am a convicted pet-o-phile.
Q. When did you get your first bike?
A. My first bike was a Honda
350 in 1967. My second bike was a BSA 650 Thunderbolt a couple of years later. After crashing it I stopped riding until the
late 90's.
Q. What type of bike do you ride now?
A. I ride both a 2002 Heritage
Softail classic w/big bore, Mikuni carburetor, Corbin seat (a world of difference) & misc. shiny stuff. For 2/up I have
a 2002 Road King. Mod.’s are power commander and tour pack. I also have a 1967 650 BSA Lightening that I have been storing
for years and that I am about to get back on the road.
Q. What is your favorite road/ride?
A. I like Marin Country coastal
roads between Stinson and Jenner. For a quick fix Bear Creek Rd. from Orinda to Martinez or Palomares foothill in Castro Valley/Pleasanton area will work. Events rate low on the scale. I like to ride solo
or in small groups with a gastronomic destination a priority. Washoe House (est.
1868) on Stony Point Rd. between
Petaluma and Sebastopol caps a bodega bay ride nicely.
Q. Why is riding important to you?
A. After having survived
sex, drugs and rock-n-roll there are few self-destructive choices left. Riding the coast, to state and national parks, and
small towns on back roads is as good as it gets. It lets the hamster in my brain get out of its own squirrel cage (mixed metaphor).
Q. How did you hear about the Roadhouse Monkeys?
A. I was looking for a group
where it was easy to hook-up for a ride on the weekend. I liked the concept of the un-club club (no dues or fees, only a desire
to enjoy riding for membership).
Q. Any Other Comments?
A. As a contrarian I am most
likely to have an opinion that is in opposition to your firmly held belief so I do my best to keep quiet.
