ROADHOUSE MONKEYS NEWS:
With the Roadhouse Monkeys well established in the Bay
Area, Mid State and Northern California, we are starting to see annual events take shape for each area. As members relocated
to other parts of the state, new groups have started up and with them, new rides that reflect the local flavor and geography.
The 2008 Roadhouse Monkeys Annual Triathlon was the 4th year the Monkeys gathered for the yearly Bay Area ride and party.
The event was a raging success, due in large part to its organizer, Gerry Bradford (out of the Mid-State Roadhouse Monkeys).
Next month, Nor-Cali will be holding its 2nd Annual Labor Day Ride, hosted by Ron Buracker. Plans are underway for a group
from the Bay Area to link up. Check the Rides & Events page on the website for more details.
I
look forward to taking advantage of the opportunity to meet up and ride with groups who live in other regions of the state.
These are folks who know the lay of the land, great roads, restaurants, and places to stay, etc. For example my wife
and I, along with other family members, are planning a trip to Pismo Beach next month and plan to hook up with Dave Scott
of the Mid-State RM’s for a day of riding.
Ever year I say to myself, Self, I am going to do a lot more riding this summer. Well that has certainly
come to pass this year. So far, in addition to all the spontaneous weekend rides, I have joined other Roadhouse Monkeys on
the following: the San Francisco Hot Rod & Bike Show, Easyriders, Big John’s Memorial Ride, Alpine
Run, the Triathlon, Three Bridge Run, Hollister, and now can’t wait to do the Nor-Cali Labor Day Ride.
I
have been interested in watching the development of what we term an Un-club. Roadhouse Monkeys came out
of the desire of friends that wanted to get together and just ride. There would not be mandated meetings or formal protocols
to follow. The Roadhouse Monkeys events have come from the ideas and voluntary efforts of individuals.
Remaining free from politics and pettiness, an overwhelming constant that remains the backbone of the group is being able
to create an environment where all bikes and bikers are welcome.
So weather you come to every
ride or can only make it to a few, we are brothers and sisters with one common goal Let’s Ride!
The Definition of Irony:
Last year we were contacted by
the City of Oakland regarding loud pipes. We were asked to participate in a meeting to address the problem. It seems some
Oakland residents have been complaining. After a few months it was decided instead of police citing bikers, the clubs could
monitor themselves with the understanding that if the problem persists, tickets would be issued.
And
now for the irony - The Oakland Police Department has equipped 30 department motorcycles with louder pipes. It seems the cops
did not feel safe on toned down bikes. Another 15 newly purchased bikes were ordered with louder pipes. Oakland officials
acknowledge that the noisy pipes, when tested, averaged 93 decibels - well above the federal legal noise limit, according
to the Motorcycle Industry Council.
RIDES/EVENTS NEWS:
The Nor-Cali Roadhouse Monkeys Labor Day Ride is set for Aug. 30-31. There will be a group leaving from the Bay Area on Friday,
Aug 29th, and returning Monday Sept. 1st. Ron is having t-shirts made up, so we will need a count. An email with
all the information, including hotel accommodations, will be sent, but you can also check the website.
WEBSITE NEWS:
Not To Pretty Sure!
We hope that the website is something that has become a reflection of the Roadhouse Monkeys as a whole; however, we are always
looking for ways to make it more pertinent. If you have an idea or suggestion drop us a line.
Question: What are the requirements to write a column, host a web page, submit an idea, etc. for the Roadhouse Monkeys web
site.
Answer: None, hell you don’t even have
to do no spelling good. That’s why God created spell check. As far as a grammar check, well you have to cut us some
slack there.
And now for something different:
Thought for the day: If I had to tell you, you wouldn’t understand.
Someone once said “we rob people from the opportunity to discover things
by telling them”. If the only way to truly learn something is self discover then telling them isn’t going to help.
I can tell you about the freedom experienced from riding the open road but you just wouldn’t understand, until you do
it… so just do it.
